Chime is seeking a Software Engineer for its Support Foundations team to help construct and maintain the infrastructure driving member assistance interactions. Operating as a financial technology company rather than a traditional bank, Chime builds intuitive user tools designed to empower members in managing their finances and progressing toward their economic goals. In this role, you will help rebuild the core support platform from the ground up, modernizing contact center infrastructure and creating artificial intelligence-driven self-service tools, real-time summarization features, and robust data pipelines.
This position suits backend software engineers who enjoy tackling complex, multi-domain technical hurdles while balancing autonomy with cooperative teamwork. Team members collaborate closely with Product, Conversational Design, and Operations groups to improve member satisfaction metrics and routing accuracy. Responsibilities span designing resilient backend systems, establishing system monitoring, building application programming interfaces alongside mobile developers, and participating in an on-call rotation that may require addressing incidents outside of standard business hours.
Responsibilities
- Build and own contact center systems handling voice calls, live chat, and agent routing
- Develop conversational workflows integrating large language models for real-time customer issue resolution
- Ship real-time interaction summarization features to decrease agent workload and boost conversation quality
- Design onboarding and skill-assignment architectures for support agents
- Create interactive voice response and member authentication phone flows
- Construct data pipelines and models to monitor routing quality, resolution rates, and platform health
- Write clean, tested backend code while occasionally assisting with frontend or mobile features
- Implement monitoring and dashboards to detect issues proactively
- Participate in an on-call rotation requiring off-hours incident response when necessary
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of software development experience within a production scale environment
- Experience utilizing Ruby on Rails or similar frameworks
- Background working with transactional databases and caching systems
