Chime, a financial technology company offering user-friendly and accessible financial tools rather than operating as a traditional bank, is seeking a Senior Application Security Engineer to join its Product Security team.
This position centers on mobile application security while also covering backend systems, APIs, and CI/CD pipelines. The professional in this role will work closely with mobile, platform, and backend engineering departments to implement secure design practices, conduct code and architecture reviews, and facilitate safe feature rollouts.
The ideal candidate possesses significant hands-on experience securing distributed systems and mobile platforms in production environments, and is comfortable utilizing AI technologies to support security workflows.
Responsibilities
- Develop and enhance security capabilities, guardrails, and automation tools for mobile applications, backend services, and APIs.
- Execute application, backend, and API penetration testing.
- Discover, triage, and assist with the remediation of vulnerabilities across Chime products.
- Collaborate with product and engineering groups to integrate security into the development lifecycle for mobile and backend systems.
- Conduct architecture and code reviews across iOS, Android, API, and backend platforms focusing on authentication, authorization, token handling, and secure data storage.
- Utilize AI tools to enhance security procedures such as threat modeling, triage, and code review assistance, while helping teams building AI features define production security controls.
Requirements
- Possess five or more years of professional experience in application security.
- Demonstrate hands-on production experience securing iOS and Android mobile applications.
- Understand mobile threat models and prevalent attack methods thoroughly.
- Know how to execute mobile security testing via static and dynamic analysis techniques.
- Understand the security limitations and features built into iOS and Android platforms.
- Show practical coding competence in Python, Go, or Ruby.
- Communicate security risks, tradeoffs, and remediation advice clearly to engineering partners.
