In this position, the professional will shape consumer-facing digital products across web and mobile platforms, focusing on end-to-end user journeys within the online grocery ecosystem.

This role suits an experienced design professional who excels at blending product thinking, behavioral insights, and brand storytelling. The Staff Experience Designer will craft personalized customer journeys, develop AI-assisted prototypes, and establish experience frameworks for core touchpoints such as subscription adoption and household management. The work involves partnering closely with engineering, product, data science, research, brand, and marketing teams.

The position is available on a remote basis for candidates residing in specific Canadian provinces, namely Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, and Nova Scotia. Instacart applies a Flex First remote work model, allowing employees to choose their workspace while occasionally gathering for in-person events. Compensation includes base pay alongside new hire and annual equity grants.

Responsibilities

  • Drive and lead consumer-facing product experiences to establish personalized multi-step customer journeys
  • Create end-to-end experience design briefs covering multiple surfaces and modalities, including agentic conversational interfaces
  • Develop strategic narratives, feature naming conventions, value propositions, strategy documents, flow diagrams, and storyboards
  • Define and maintain experience frameworks mapping out critical user journeys such as initial orders, repeat patterns, subscription adoption, and household management
  • Structure content hierarchy and information architecture across digital touchpoints to optimize user comprehension
  • Formulate functional and emotional experience principles and translate them into scalable interaction rules and content hierarchies
  • Utilize AI-assisted prototyping tools and concept development techniques to generate flows that match the brand and design system
  • Establish visual hierarchy, spacing, grid rules, and module placement strategies for content areas
  • Plan and conduct research activities to gather customer insights regarding shopping habits and lifecycle evolution
  • Mentor cross-functional partners on journey-based and emotion-driven product thinking

Requirements

  • At least 15 years of experience designing digital products and consumer-facing experiences across mobile and web platforms
  • Portfolio highlighting complex multi-step user journeys and end-to-end flows spanning channels like social media, CRM, and marketing campaigns
  • Demonstrated proficiency in at least two design disciplines such as UX design, content design, visual design, design research, or design strategy
  • Expertise in creating structured strategic storytelling, visually compelling presentations, and decision-making frameworks
  • Case studies demonstrating brand-centric product design driven by user insights, business impact metrics, and data science
  • Familiarity with navigating ambiguous multi-stakeholder settings and aligning cross-functional teams
  • Proficiency using Google Slides and Figma
  • Legal residency in one of the approved hiring regions of Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, or Nova Scotia

Qualifications

  • Experience designing for e-commerce platforms, marketplaces, grocery services, subscription products, or consumer packaged goods
  • Background in shaping user onboarding, customer retention, activation, and early repeat shopping behaviors
  • Familiarity with domains including meal planning, health goals, nutrition, allergy management, and household personalization
  • Prior work designing high-visibility product surfaces like personalized feeds, home pages, and merchandising modules
  • Experience contributing to and evolving large-scale design systems
  • Desire to utilize generative tools and software such as Claude Code, Cursor, ChatGPT, and Lovable
