Instacart operates an essential grocery delivery and pickup platform that connects consumers with local retail stores, while additionally offering earnings opportunities for personal shoppers. The company functions under a flexible work model allowing personnel to operate from home, an office, or other locations.

The Ads Manager division develops the self-serve platform used by retailers, brands, and agencies to configure, run, and oversee their advertising campaigns on the platform. The group is currently seeking a Senior Software Engineer II to co-direct technical strategy for the advertiser platform, modernize frontend architecture, and scale sophisticated reporting and campaign creation interfaces.

This position is suited for an experienced frontend specialist who can shape technical direction, mentor team members, and drive large projects from design through operations. The person in this role will collaborate closely with product management, design, backend development, and data science colleagues to construct reusable user interface abstractions, improve platform performance and accessibility, and participate in emerging artificial intelligence initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Co-own the technical roadmap and architecture for web applications within Ads Manager
  • Design and build React user interfaces for campaign management, creation, reporting, and optimization
  • Establish shared components, state management systems, and abstractions
  • Partner with backend teams on data contracts and APIs
  • Monitor observability, performance, reliability, and on-call readiness
  • Execute refactors and migrations of legacy frontend code
  • Incorporate security-by-design principles into frontend architecture
  • Mentor engineers up to the L5 level and assist with onboarding
  • Help define patterns for AI-assisted development tools

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of experience creating modern web applications with complex user interfaces
  • Expertise in Node.js and React within large codebases
  • Proficiency in frontend architecture including routing, data fetching, modularization, and error handling
  • Background designing and integrating with REST or GraphQL APIs
  • Demonstrated ability to guide large multi-stakeholder projects through implementation
  • Experience with web application monitoring and observability tools

Qualifications

  • Experience building data-heavy user interfaces like analytics dashboards or editors
  • Practical background using GraphQL at scale
  • Familiarity with automation testing tools such as Playwright, Cypress, or Selenium
  • Expertise in frontend performance optimization and resilience patterns
  • Prior involvement in major framework upgrades or modernization efforts
  • Familiarity with design tools including Figma
  • Track record of acting as a domain expert and mentoring junior engineers
