Job Description

Instacart operates an essential service that connects millions of customers with grocery and household deliveries, while offering flexible earnings opportunities for personal shoppers. The company embraces a Flex First remote work model, allowing staff to select their preferred working environment while maintaining connection through scheduled in-person gatherings. Within the Marketing Enablement and Technology organization, the Marketing, Product, and Engineering disciplines intersect to build the underlying infrastructure supporting organic search performance and campaign execution.

The organization is currently seeking a Software Engineer II to focus on two major growth initiatives: Technical Search Visibility and CRM Enablement. This hands-on position requires a full-stack generalist who can move fluidly between organic-traffic engineering and CRM execution tools. Responsibilities span building end-to-end features, designing modular React components for emails, developing responsive messaging across devices, improving data pipelines, and establishing internal automation to streamline quality assurance.

This role suits professionals with three to five years of software engineering background who possess expertise across multiple technologies including React, TypeScript, Ruby, Python, and SQL. Candidates should demonstrate a strong product mindset, effective cross-functional collaboration skills, and the capability to take complete ownership of features from development through production rollout.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and deploy full-stack features to enhance search engine visibility, AI answer engine performance, and organic traffic.
  • Develop and evolve a modular React email component library compiling into secure, client-safe HTML.
  • Create responsive and accessible HTML and CSS emails that render reliably across various devices, clients, and dark mode themes.
  • Enhance the Next.js compilation pipeline for improved speed, reliability, and observability.
  • Contribute to data ingestion, transformation, and delivery pipelines supporting search engine optimization.
  • Execute dynamic lifecycle campaigns across email, push, and in-app channels using structured blocks, templating languages, and JSON or YAML configurations.
  • Integrate with email service providers such as Braze and connect via REST APIs and webhooks for targeted personalization with secure data handling.
  • Construct internal automation and tooling to decrease setup and quality assurance duration for search and CRM operations.
  • Conduct troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and system-level fixes for rendering and logic issues across multiple devices.
  • Partner with product managers, designers, and marketing stakeholders to translate user needs into technical specifications.

Requirements

  • Three to five years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Proficiency in React, TypeScript, Ruby, Python, PostgreSQL, and SQL.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently build and launch complete full-stack features from development to production rollout.
  • Hands-on expertise utilizing React and Next.js to componentize user interfaces and emails into production HTML.
  • Strong technical background in HTML, CSS, and responsive email development across devices and dark mode.
  • Experience working with distributed systems and data engineering tasks, including schema optimization and exposure to tools like Airflow or dbt.
  • Familiarity with building and testing REST API integrations, webhooks, and secure data handling.
  • Ability to write performant code with robust logging, metrics, and observability.

Qualifications

  • Experience with search engine optimization, AI answer engine optimization, structured data via Schema.org, search crawling, and Core Web Vitals.
  • Familiarity with AI-driven search engines and how large language models consume content.
  • Knowledge of templating and personalization languages such as Liquid or AMPscript.
  • Familiarity with email service providers like Braze or Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
  • Experience utilizing quality assurance tools and workflows including Litmus, Email on Acid, UTM validation, and link checkers.
  • Testing experience with Jest, React Testing Library, Cypress, or Playwright.
  • Background in big data technologies, NoSQL databases, and data warehousing platforms such as Snowflake or Redshift.
  • Experience constructing shared component libraries or design systems for marketing operations.
