The company is hiring a Legislative Counsel to join the Legislative and Labor Team on a full-time, remote basis. Over the first year, the professional in this role will review legislation impacting marketplaces, gig economy participants, consumers, and retailers while delivering actionable guidance to internal partners. The position involves managing relationships with trade associations, external counsel, and industry partners, alongside building and sharing internal expertise regarding novel areas of law.

Instacart operates under a Flex First remote work model, granting employees the flexibility to choose their workspace while staying connected through periodic in-person events. Compensation varies depending on the permanent work location of the candidate.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate cross-functional regulatory responses across Operations, Product, Communications, and Policy and Government Affairs teams.
  • Conduct comprehensive reviews of legislation impacting consumers, retailers, marketplace platforms, and gig economy participants.
  • Deliver actionable legal guidance to business partners to support compliant operations.
  • Develop and document compliance best practices and legal frameworks to address regulatory mandates.
  • Manage relationships with external counsel, trade associations, and industry partners.
  • Drive cross-industry initiatives to shape the regulatory conversation surrounding gig economy innovation.
  • Build and share internal expertise concerning emerging legal areas relevant to the company.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor degree
  • Minimum of 6 years of legal practice experience
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, synthesize, and deliver precise legal advice on legislative updates
  • Experience dealing with regulatory matters, government agencies, or legislative bodies
  • Proven success supporting compliance initiatives and executing legal frameworks
  • Understanding of the regulatory landscape and legislative processes
