Zoox is developing fully autonomous vehicles with a focus on providing high levels of safety for passengers. The engineering team brings together specialists from vehicle engineering, robotics, and controls. This full-time, on-site role focuses on occupant protection engineering within the Vehicle Safety team.
The position involves overseeing occupant protection system performance across the entire development lifecycle. Responsibilities range from early conception phases through part development, system design, and physical crash testing for full vehicles. Professionals in this role collaborate directly with internal safety specialists, computer-aided engineering groups, module teams, external testing facilities, and component suppliers.
This opportunity is suited for engineers who want to apply their technical creativity and organizational abilities to autonomous mobility products. The work requires managing specific load cases from start to finish, tracking development plans, and collaborating across multidisciplinary technical teams to reach safety targets.
Responsibilities
- Manage assigned load cases from start to finish
- Translate vehicle technical specification safety targets into measurable metrics
- Guide restraint system development through vehicle integration
- Create and execute virtual and physical design verification plans
- Examine test outcomes, share insights with engineering groups, and present reports at project milestones
- Assist with system and full-vehicle testing by outlining requirements, matrices, instrumentation, and goals
- Track and document performance problems using Jira
- Improve CAE-to-physical test correlation for specific load cases
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional background in automotive development and testing
- Familiarity with safety testing in the automotive sector
- Understanding of FMVSS regulations and consumer safety protocols
- Background in both virtual and physical safety evaluations, including Hyperworks or MetaPost analysis
- Capability to build and script templates for data validation and reporting
- Proficiency in 3D design and PLM applications, with a preference for CATIA 3DX or CATIA V5
- Strong organizational and communication skills
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in Engineering
- Demonstrated interest in electric and autonomous mobility
- Prior project management background
- Familiarity with Jira
- Understanding of DFMEA and SFMEA methodologies
- Experience using requirements management tools such as Polarion
- Knowledge of Python programming
- Familiarity with LS-Dyna
