Zoox is seeking a Senior Technical Program Manager to direct large-scale, intricate engineering initiatives across multiple teams and systems. This position offers significant independence and requires setting high standards for organizational program execution. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with engineering and product executives to guide strategic projects, resource allocation, and organizational priorities.
This role is ideal for an experienced professional who possesses strong technical intuition, exceptional organizational influence, and a proven history of delivering large programs. Responsibilities include steering end-to-end program lifecycles from planning to release, shaping program management methodologies, managing cross-team dependencies, and communicating technical information to executive stakeholders. Additionally, the individual will engage in architectural scoping, mentor junior team members, and navigate complex challenges within a fast-paced environment.
Zoox operates on a hybrid remote model for this full-time position. Candidates should have a strong background in software engineering program management and the ability to influence without formal authority. Those with a history in infrastructure or platform engineering, cloud services familiarity, or relevant professional certifications will find their background particularly advantageous for this position.
Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end execution of large engineering initiatives involving multiple teams from strategy to delivery
- Partner with engineering and product leaders at the VP and Director levels to shape roadmaps and priorities
- Establish and refine program management frameworks and best practices across the engineering organization
- Coordinate cross-functional alignment across multiple teams, external partners, and competing interests
- Identify and mitigate portfolio-level risks, trade-offs, and escalations proactively
- Communicate technical details and business impact clearly to executive stakeholders
- Mentor junior program managers and contribute to the growth of the program management team
- Take part in technical and architectural scoping discussions to evaluate delivery risks and feasibility
Requirements
- At least 7 years of technical program management experience delivering complex engineering programs
- Expertise in managing multi-team software programs throughout the complete software development lifecycle
- Technical foundation enabling credible engagement in architectural discussions and system design evaluations
- Strong communication and executive presence with the ability to influence without authority
- Experience developing or enhancing program management tools and processes at the organizational scale
- Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity and make decisions under pressure
Qualifications
- Experience working on platform, product, or infrastructure engineering programs at a software company
- Familiarity with distributed systems concepts and cloud services such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
- Possession of PMP, PgMP, or Agile/Scrum certifications
- Prior professional background as a software engineer or in another technical role
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
