This position is ideal for an experienced automotive professional with leadership skills who wants to drive efficiency and maximize vehicle uptime during low-demand periods. The person in this role will guide a crew of technicians and associates, manage schedules, mentor staff, and enforce strict safety standards.
The role requires managing logistics, handling technical escalations, deploying software updates, and collaborating with cross-functional groups. The schedule for this position runs from Friday through Tuesday, from 10 PM to 6 AM. The candidate must be comfortable working overnight hours, possess a clean driving record, and be willing to travel locally and nationally up to 20 percent of the time.
Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and coach technical staff and contract personnel on the overnight shift
- Handle recruiting, onboarding, training, and scheduling for workshop personnel
- Track individual and team performance metrics to meet mission targets
- Identify operational bottlenecks and apply lean methods to streamline repair and maintenance
- Manage overnight vehicle maintenance and rework tasks to ensure daytime fleet availability
- Act as the primary contact for complex technical problems and enforce internal quality controls
- Analyze and document fleet data to support root cause analysis on vehicle issues
- Enforce safety policies and maintain a clean workshop environment complying with OSHA rules
- Deploy correct software and firmware versions to vehicles prior to morning operations
- Supervise vehicle ingest, pre-mission checks, and yard logistics to ensure smooth shift transitions
- Manually operate autonomous and auxiliary vehicles when needed
- Coordinate operations and support vehicle fleets across multiple geographic sites
Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on automotive technician experience
- 2+ years of people leadership or supervisory experience
- Willingness to work the 3rd shift overnight schedule
- Extensive background in automotive maintenance, diagnostics, parts, and tools
- High proficiency in CAN/LIN architecture, wiring diagrams, and soldering
- Ability to quickly learn technical subjects
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Capability to manage time and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced startup setting
- Clean driving record
- Ability to travel locally and nationally up to 20% of the time
Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in a technical or business field
- Technical trade school certificate or Associate Degree in automotive repair
- Understanding of electric vehicle architecture and high-voltage systems
