Job Description
Zoox is seeking a Senior or Staff Systems V&V Engineer to join its Platform Safety Assurance team within the System Design and Mission Assurance division. In this position, the professional will focus on fail-safe and fail-operational behaviors to support the deployment of an autonomous mobility network in urban areas. This role suits an engineer experienced in safety-critical systems who wants to contribute directly to the reliability of a driverless robotaxi fleet. Responsibilities center on designing test campaigns, evaluating fault responses, and validating the compute-platform safety case.
Zoox operates at the intersection of machine learning, design, and robotics to build a ground-up autonomous vehicle fleet and mobility service. The position follows a hybrid remote schedule.
Responsibilities
- Review and analyze vehicle response strategies for fault conditions originating from all potential sources
- Plan and execute testing procedures covering safety and fail-operational responses
- Design and direct system-level verification and validation campaigns while establishing testing metrics
- Collaborate with perception, system safety, firmware, vehicle controls, and planning teams to build alignment on fault condition processes
- Examine, track, and document complex test outcomes to support platform enhancements
- Apply verification and validation expertise to advance the compute-platform safety case
Requirements
- Bachelor degree or higher in a technical field such as Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering
- At least five years of specialized experience in verification and validation processes for safety-critical systems
- Demonstrated background in functional safety, diagnostics, fault detection, and mitigation systems
- Experience executing system-level testing along with hardware-in-the-loop and physical vehicle-level testing
- Proficiency in Python for data analysis purposes
- Familiarity with basic probability and statistics
Qualifications
- Background in quantitative risk analysis or statistical reliability analysis
- Experience in fault protection system design and validation
- Familiarity with standards such as ISO 26262, ARP 4754, ARP 4761, or IEC 51511
