Zoox is seeking a Supplier Quality Engineer to drive the performance and ongoing enhancement of its prototype and production supply chain. In this position, the professional will collaborate closely with internal engineering teams and external partners to evaluate manufacturing viability, lead industrialization plans, and manage quality processes from initial design to production. The ideal individual is entrepreneurial, energetic, driven, and detail-oriented. Candidates with specialized background in casting cradles, subframes, extrusions, machining, and mechanical assemblies with multiple stackups will find strong alignment with the role. Travel of up to 20 percent domestically is necessary, and short-notice trips may happen periodically.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Vehicle Systems Engineering to evaluate the manufacturability of new product designs
- Partner with Sourcing managers and Engineering to perform supplier process audits and select vendors
- Review CAD models and part prints with suppliers to verify design manufacturability
- Lead the Supplier Industrialization Roadmap by directing development activities and capability reviews
- Identify supplier capital expenditure needs for equipment and tooling, and manage validation activities
- Monitor supplier readiness for vehicle build events, flag production ramp risks, and track mitigation plans
- Oversee the Advanced Product Quality Planning process through part approval submission and production start
- Train suppliers on the Zoox portal and review quality document submissions
- Lead Root Cause and Corrective Action analysis and ensure process documentation updates
- Support Manufacturing, Quality, and Vehicle Engineering in analyzing suspect material and join Material Review Board meetings
- Track and report incoming part quality metrics including First Article Inspection, Cp/Cpk, and process capability studies
- Promote continuous improvement across the supply network using lean and quality methodologies
Requirements
- Hold at least a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
- Bring a minimum of six years of professional background in Quality, Supplier Quality, or Manufacturing within the automotive, aviation, or medical device sectors
- Demonstrate hands-on familiarity with core process control tools such as Process Flow Diagrams, FMEAs, Control Plans, SPC, MSA, and Process Capability
- Possess working knowledge of manufacturing methods including extrusions, castings, and general machining
- Understand Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, tooling validation, and final buy-off procedures
- Demonstrate ability to interpret inspection techniques, CMM data, and trend analysis
- Know quality management standards such as ISO 9000 and IATF 16949
- Have experience conducting supplier evaluations, APQP, PPAP, and managing vendor production ramps
- Be proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Be available for up to 20 percent domestic travel, sometimes on short notice
Qualifications
- Experience with Google Workspace
- Background in New Product Introduction and quality systems development
- Proficiency in problem-solving frameworks such as Six Sigma, 8D, Pareto charts, regression analysis, ANOVA, DOE, fishbone diagrams, and Red-X
- Certified Quality Engineer from ASQ
- Six Sigma Green Belt certification
- Certified Quality Systems Auditor credential
- Background in manufacturing casting cradles, subframes, extrusions, and machining processes
