Job Description
Affirm is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for its App Infrastructure group to guide the shared mobile foundations that power all other product teams. This remote position focuses on owning core mobile components such as the design system, networking, CI/CD pipelines, observability, developer tooling, and application availability. The ideal candidate thrives in ambiguity, enjoys small and collaborative technical environments, and can set yearly technical strategies that connect with critical business initiatives.
In this role, the engineer will act as a force multiplier by establishing operational policies, triage rotations, and robust testing standards while advocating for technical solutions through writing and tech talks. Responsibilities
- Establish technical direction on a yearly timeline and align team efforts with impactful business projects
- Partner with product management, design, and analytics functions to manage technical sustainability, risks, and trade-offs
- Define and advocate for operational processes, technical solutions, and high coding standards
- Supervise operational availability by implementing monitoring, alerting, triage rotations, testing, and playbooks
- Mentor team members through performance guidance, feedback, and leading by example
- Drive large-scale engineering executions, feature deliveries, and system component deprecations
Requirements
- Have seven or more years of experience building and architecting mobile software
- Possess at least four years of hands-on experience using React Native
- Demonstrate proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript
- Show direct experience using React Native and Expo, including authoring or migrating native components and modules
- Bring experience handling complex state management inside React applications
- Understand how to execute major React Native SDK updates and debug across the JavaScript and native boundary within the New Architecture
- Stay informed on native operating system releases and their integration into React Native applications
- Demonstrate familiarity with mobile testing and observability instruments like Maestro, Appium, Sentry, Crashlytics, Statsig, and LaunchDarkly
- Maintain up-to-date proficiency in agentic and AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code
- Fulfill either a Bachelor’s degree in a related field or possess equivalent practical experience
