The organization is seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Backend for its Commerce Platform team in New York on a hybrid schedule.
In this position, you will act as a technical leader, architect, and mentor, helping steer the future of the platform and directing the creation of financial systems that govern how healthcare is accessed. You will collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and cross-functional teams to construct robust distributed systems, define technical roadmaps, and uphold high standards of engineering excellence.

Responsibilities
- Develop scalable backend capabilities using Python and FastAPI for commerce domains such as payments, pricing, and invoicing.
- Lead cross-functional technical initiatives in partnership with product managers, designers, and adjacent engineering teams.
- Establish and maintain service level indicators and service level objectives with product, infrastructure, and development groups.
- Drive engineering quality through testing, monitoring, observability, and performance optimization practices.
- Participate in on-call rotations to maintain the reliability of commerce systems.
Requirements
- 7 to 10+ years of professional backend software development experience.
- Proficiency in Python, relational databases, and frameworks such as Django or FastAPI.
- Hands-on experience with metrics instrumentation and data-driven performance tuning utilizing tools like Datadog.
- Background in building and maintaining high-scale backend systems within commerce, fintech, or healthcare environments.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems including data consistency, communication patterns, and service boundaries.
Qualifications
- Experience working in telehealth or other heavily regulated industries.
- Familiarity with breaking down monolithic architectures into distinct domains.
