This remote-first position is ideal for an experienced backend engineer looking to lead technical strategies within a regulated financial domain.

As a Staff Software Engineer on the Ledger Engineering team, the individual will shape the technical direction, collaborate cross-functional teams, and establish high standards for system design and code quality. The selected professional will ensure high availability and operational excellence while mentoring and guiding other engineers. This role bridges technical execution with rigorous accounting standards required for a publicly traded company.

Responsibilities

  • Determine the technical strategy for the team across a year-long horizon and align it with business goals.
  • Partner with product management, design, and analytics to manage technical risks and trade-offs.
  • Advocate for technical solutions and operational processes to act as a force-multiplier for the team.
  • Manage system availability, monitoring, triage rotations, testing, alerts, and playbooks.
  • Establish code review and design standards while promoting them through writing and tech talks.
  • Provide guidance, feedback, and mentorship to develop engineering talent on the team.

Requirements

  • Have at least 8 years of professional background designing, building, and launching large-scale backend systems using languages like Python or Kotlin.
  • Demonstrate a strong track record of creating highly available distributed systems with tools such as AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes.
  • Possess practical background in ledgering, treasury, financial systems, or related domains prioritizing data accuracy and reliability.
  • Show experience delivering major features, system components, or deprecations through defined technical and execution plans.
  • Demonstrate the ability to write easily understood, high-quality code.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with a global engineering team.
