Job Description

Zoox seeks a Staff Signal Integrity and Power Integrity Engineer to direct signal quality, timing, and power delivery for advanced robotaxi electronic systems. In this position, the specialist will function as a central technical authority, setting department simulation practices, formulating overarching SI/PI architectures, and managing final sign-off for sophisticated high-speed interfaces.

This opportunity fits an experienced hardware professional capable of addressing unprecedented technical hurdles and steering multi-functional alignment across silicon vendors, layout specialists, and mechanical teams. Zoox develops next-generation autonomous vehicle hardware, requiring robust solutions that adhere to strict reliability standards.

The role involves hands-on laboratory measurements, root-cause investigations, and mentorship for engineering colleagues. Candidates will tackle high-density circuit board layouts, power delivery network simulations, and advanced serial link optimizations. Equal emphasis is placed on architectural planning and practical laboratory characterization using high-bandwidth measurement equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Determine SI/PI architecture and establish constraints for high-density printed circuit boards and overall system designs
  • Partner with hardware design, silicon vendors, PCB layout, and mechanical engineering groups to outline stack-ups and routing strategies
  • Evaluate, refine, and sign off on high-speed serial links including PCIe, Ethernet, MIPI, and GMSL, alongside LPDDR memory interfaces
  • Deliver design guidance and validation for automotive audio and communication protocols such as A2B
  • Design and execute Power Delivery Network analyses covering DC IR drop, AC impedance modeling, and transient response
  • Build department routing guidelines, simulation methodologies, automation scripts, and sign-off procedures
  • Perform hands-on laboratory measurements, root-cause debugging, and correlation of simulation models with physical testing
  • Mentor junior and senior engineers while acting as a subject matter expert for the hardware organization

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a closely related field
  • Over ten years of industry background in signal and power integrity analysis for advanced high-speed digital designs
  • Track record of designing, simulating, and troubleshooting high-speed interfaces like PCIe, multi-gigabit Ethernet, MIPI, and GMSL through multiple product lifecycles
  • Expertise in memory interface design and simulation centered on LPDDR technologies
  • Familiarity with automotive sensor and audio bus protocols such as A2B
  • Proficiency with electromagnetic extraction and simulation platforms including Ansys HFSS/SIwave, Keysight ADS, Cadence Sigrity, or Siemens EDA/HyperLynx
  • Mastery of transmission line theory, electromagnetics, cross-talk, jitter, and PDN design principles
  • Hands-on expertise utilizing lab characterization gear such as VNAs, TDRs, and high-bandwidth oscilloscopes

Qualifications

  • Prior background in the automotive sector creating hardware for autonomous vehicles or advanced driver-assistance systems
  • Knowledge of automotive reliability standards, compliance needs, and harsh operational environment design
  • Experience working with high-layer-count HDI PCB design, advanced packaging, and modern fabrication capabilities
  • Ability to steer technical strategy and communicate complex trade-offs to executive stakeholders
