As part of the Machine Learning Efficiency group, this position focuses on engineering the foundational infrastructure, optimization frameworks, and developer tools required to run machine learning models reliably at scale. Professionals in this group work to accelerate experimentation, enhance developer efficiency, maximize hardware performance, and reduce cloud infrastructure expenses.
This opportunity is well-suited for engineers experienced in constructing distributed architectures and managing high-scale machine learning systems who want to improve performance engineering across diverse production workloads.
Responsibilities
- Design and construct architecture to optimize machine learning inference and training operations
- Create tools allowing engineers to monitor, profile, debug, and enhance model performance
- Boost hardware and GPU performance through workload tuning, caching, resource allocation, and scheduling
- Collaborate alongside product groups and researchers to locate bottlenecks and implement performance upgrades
- Construct performance metrics dashboards and benchmarking tools for serving and training environments
- Tune distributed model training frameworks, data pipelines, and serving architectures
- Guide cross-team projects designed to boost productivity for internal engineering personnel
- Direct the technical roadmap for platform reliability, cost optimization, and scalability
Requirements
- At least five years of professional software engineering experience
- Strong command of the Python programming language
- Demonstrated background in building distributed architectures at a large scale
- Hands-on practice with model serving systems, machine learning infrastructure, or training platforms
- Comprehensive understanding of performance tuning and systems optimization
- Advanced profiling and debugging capabilities
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, or Doctor of Philosophy degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline
- Familiarity with at least one systems programming language such as Go, C++, Rust, or Java
- Experience working with generative artificial intelligence, foundation models, ranking systems, or large-scale recommendation platforms
- Familiarity with distributed training tools including PyTorch Distributed, Ray, Spark, or TensorFlow
- Working knowledge of graphics processing unit hardware layouts and performance evaluation tools
- Background in managing and reducing cloud infrastructure expenses for massive machine learning operations
- Prior contributions directed toward internal platforms utilized by multiple engineering squads
- Experience developing real-time machine learning inference solutions
