Coinbase is seeking a Staff Infrastructure Engineer, Trading to join the Institutional Everything Exchange team on a remote basis. Coinbase is building systems that enable the world's largest financial institutions to execute trades across multiple markets with speed, trust, and depth. In this role, the engineer will own the deployment, operational tooling, and infrastructure for latency-sensitive, multi-node trading environments that operate across both cloud and on-premise or colocated venues.

This position suits an experienced infrastructure professional who thrives in an intense environment and wants to shape trading systems from the ground up. The role involves maintaining around-the-clock reliability, enhancing developer velocity, minimizing single-point-of-failure risks, and partnering closely with product and SRE teams. Responsibilities

  • Manage infrastructure, deployment processes, and operational tooling for latency-sensitive trading environments across cloud and on-premises setups.
  • Ensure continuous reliability and high developer velocity by overseeing observability, deployment safety, and incident response for round-the-clock systems.
  • Establish operational benchmarks through automation, standards, and reviews to minimize single-point-of-failure risks within the trading stack.
  • Collaborate with platform engineers to guarantee that latency-critical systems remain performant and operable.
  • Mentor team members to foster resilience within a lean and high-impact environment.
  • Work cross-functionally alongside Product, SRE, and Institutional Markets teams to translate platform needs into a roadmap.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years of engineering experience in infrastructure, platforms, or site reliability engineering with documented ownership of large-scale production systems.
  • Demonstrated background running infrastructure specifically for latency-sensitive trading environments, including on-premise and colocated setups.
  • Advanced proficiency in observability and logging tools, containerized deployments, bare-metal deployments, and orchestration software.
  • Solid understanding of Linux performance and networking fundamentals tailored for latency-critical settings.
  • Proven ability to deliver projects end-to-end, covering scoping, implementation, monitoring, deployment safety, and incident response.
  • Background working in regulated or financial settings where low-latency performance and reliability are vital.
  • Capability to use generative AI responsibly while maintaining human oversight for business outcomes.
