Zoox is seeking a Staff Electrical Architecture System Engineer to join its Electrical Architecture team. Reporting within the group led by the Principal Architect, this position focuses on developing power distribution, network topology, and the logical organization of electronic control units for bespoke autonomous robotaxis. The role suits an engineering professional with a strong background in automotive electrical systems who wants to contribute to a ground-up autonomous vehicle fleet designed for urban mobility.

In this capacity, the professional will formulate electrical and electronic system architecture designs, establish best practices, and define validation procedures. The position involves collaborating with engineering leaders across various domains to capture low-voltage load requirements and system management needs. Cross-functional coordination with vehicle integration, firmware, and component development teams is essential to deliver complete vehicle solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Manage requirements for the low-voltage power distribution system
  • Oversee vehicle communication architecture requirements
  • Define requirements for vehicle power modes and states
  • Collaborate with system engineers and component owners to build an architecture supporting their needs
  • Join technical reviews to assess potential suppliers and ensure compliance with hardware standards
  • Conduct component performance analysis to oversee total low-voltage system power demands
  • Formulate verification strategies and guide the testing team during test plan execution
  • Perform root cause analysis and impact assessments for field issues related to power distribution and networks

Requirements

  • Possess fifteen years of industry engineering experience
  • Accumulate at least ten years of experience working with vehicle electrical architectures, electronic control unit hardware base definitions, and vehicle power states functionality
  • Gather and organize information efficiently and effectively
  • Demonstrate understanding of the firmware development process for automotive electronic control units
  • Bring experience in developing wake and sleep functions for automotive electronic control units
  • Bring at least three years of experience utilizing model-based system engineering tools

Qualifications

  • Hold a Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in electrical engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Familiarity with firmware development and verification methodology
  • Proficiency in ISO 26262 along with its architectural enablers
  • Experience working with LIN, CAN FD, and automotive ethernet
  • Background using electronic fusing
  • Experience involving wiring harness design and reliability
  • Familiarity with manufacturing requirements
