The organization is currently hiring a Sr. Manager, Capacity Engineering to direct the Capacity Engineering group in San Francisco. This full-time position requires occasional in-office presence for key collaboration moments, specifically one to two times per quarter, and candidates can be situated anywhere in the country.
In this leadership role, the successful candidate will oversee a comprehensive portfolio encompassing forecasting, supply, capacity management systems, compute and GPU efficiency, data governance, and operational execution. The group ensures cloud infrastructure maintains adequate capacity while operating efficiently, reliably, and with strong financial accountability. The position suits an experienced engineering leader who can balance technical strategy with cross-functional collaboration across finance, product, SRE, and cloud providers. Pinterest expects leaders to incorporate AI into analytical workflows while maintaining rigorous personal accountability and verification for all deliverables.
The base salary range for this position is $208,592 to $429,454 USD, and the role is eligible for equity.
Responsibilities
- Formulate and execute a 12 to 18 month functional and technical strategy, roadmap, and performance metrics aligned with company goals
- Create CPU and GPU forecasts and supply plans that factor in workload demands, delivery limitations, expenses, and reliability standards
- Direct the design and implementation of capacity requests, reservations, allocation policies, and infrastructure data systems
- Enhance utilization and efficiency across Kubernetes-based shared compute platforms, GPU environments, and cloud systems while preserving availability and developer velocity
- Define trusted operational metrics and practices concerning capacity risk, infrastructure costs, realized savings, and system health
- Collaborate with Infrastructure, SRE, Finance, product, platform teams, and cloud providers on capacity and investment decisions
- Plan team headcount, recruit and hire senior technical talent, mentor technical leaders, and foster an inclusive, high-performing environment
- Utilize AI to expedite capacity analysis, forecasting, and operational workflows while verifying quality through independent judgment
Requirements
- Experience managing and developing teams that build or operate large-scale cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, compute platforms, or resource management systems
- Demonstrated history of defining a 12 to 18 month functional and technical strategy aligned with organizational goals and delivering outcomes through senior technical leaders
- Technical expertise in public cloud infrastructure, highly available distributed systems, Kubernetes or shared compute platforms, and capacity management systems
- Experience leading cross-functional infrastructure programs and communicating availability, cost, and capacity tradeoffs to stakeholders
- Track record of utilizing AI to enhance speed and quality in daily workflows along with critical evaluation and validation of AI-assisted outputs
- Commitment to protecting sensitive data, maintaining personal accountability for final decisions, and avoiding over-reliance on AI
