Job Description
Zoox is seeking a Sr. Electrical Integration Engineer - Diagnostics to oversee diagnostic deployment across its current service vehicle fleet and upcoming platform successors. This full-time, on-site role involves managing the complete diagnostic lifecycle, from initial requirement definition all the way through to operational release. The professional in this position will collaborate closely with system, firmware, software, service engineering, and fleet operations teams to establish robust design for diagnostics practices.
The ideal candidate is someone who can improve diagnostic quality, enhance fault isolation accuracy, and minimize diagnosis times within the fleet. Key responsibilities include managing requirements traceability, defining actionable service actions tied to diagnostic results, and using fleet data to validate repair effectiveness. Additionally, the role requires creating prognostic features that predict component failures using fleet telemetry, establishing metrics for continuous improvement, and communicating diagnostic health updates to leadership.
This opportunity is well-suited for experienced engineers with a deep background in vehicle or system diagnostics who enjoy working with large datasets and cross-functional teams to boost hardware reliability. Zoox offers a technical environment focused on advanced transportation systems, functional safety, and data-driven maintenance strategies.
Responsibilities
- Own diagnostic deployment for current service vehicles and future platform successors from requirements to release
- Collaborate with system, software, and firmware teams to embed design for diagnostics practices
- Enhance diagnostic quality to decrease diagnosis duration across the fleet
- Drive fault isolation accuracy so triggered faults directly point to the correct component and repair
- Maintain traceability across requirements, implementation, test coverage, and performance
- Lead test and design reviews to identify and close gaps early in the development cycle
- Define service actions linked to diagnostic outcomes in partnership with service and fleet operations
- Build prognostic features that leverage fleet telemetry to forecast issues before failure occurs
- Track and report diagnostic health and gap status to program and cross-functional leadership
- Create metrics to measure diagnostic performance and drive ongoing lifecycle improvements
Requirements
- Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, or Computer Engineering
- Minimum of ten years of professional experience in system or vehicle diagnostics
- Direct experience working with a production or operating fleet
- Demonstrated success improving diagnostic quality and fault isolation accuracy using field data
- Familiarity with automotive serial communication protocols including CAN, CAN-FD, LIN, and Automotive Ethernet
- Working knowledge of diagnostic protocols such as UDS, ISO 14229, OBD, and DTC management
- Experience applying fail-operational and fail-safe concepts under functional safety standards like ISO 26262
- Data analysis proficiency to query, process, and analyze large fleet datasets using Python, SQL, or similar tools
- Experience creating repair and service procedures alongside field operations or service teams
Qualifications
- Experience developing predictive maintenance, condition monitoring, or prognostics for complex hardware fleets
- Background applying machine learning or statistical methods for anomaly and fault detection at scale
- Experience deploying over-the-air calibrations and software updates to vehicle fleets
- Familiarity with Model-Based System Design methodology
