Canonical, a profitable and growing open-source software provider and the publisher of Ubuntu, is seeking a remote Solutions Architect for Automotive. This position supports partners and prospective clients in the automotive industry—including companies like Mercedes, Ford, GM, Elektrobit, Intel, Nvidia, Google, Dell, HP, Accenture, and Tata—by helping them adopt open-source platforms for Software Defined Vehicles. The global field engineering team assists enterprises with Ubuntu, OpenStack, Kubernetes, AI/MLOps, and associated technologies spanning from the kernel to the desktop and cloud to embedded environments.
This home-based role is suited for competitive technologists who understand business problems and possess a blend of automotive expertise, coding proficiency, and low-level Linux development experience. The successful candidate will engage in presales requirements gathering, collaborate with internal technology experts, deliver embedded Linux demonstrations and proofs of concept, and act as both a customer advocate and trusted advisor. Team members work in a distributed environment and convene in person two to four times a year in international locations for strategy alignment. The position requires a willingness to travel up to 30 percent of the time for customer meetings, company events, and conferences.
Responsibilities
- Engage with customers during the presales phase to collect requirements and explain company technology
- Collaborate with internal experts in cloud, Kubernetes, security, or safety to formulate comprehensive client solutions
- Contribute to delivering select projects involving embedded Linux, including proofs of concept and demonstrations
- Relay market requirements to key internal stakeholders and participate in developing or refining generic solutions
- Serve as both a customer advocate and a trusted advisor for Canonical
Requirements
- Extensive Linux experience, with Debian or Ubuntu preferred
- Solid embedded Linux background utilizing Yocto or RTOS
- Fluency in Golang, Python, C, C++, or Rust
- Professional written and spoken English proficiency alongside local language skills
- Excellent communication and presentation abilities
- Willingness to travel up to 30 percent of the time for customer visits, conferences, and company events
Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in Computer Science or a related technical field
- Relevant work experience in the automotive industry
- Experience with ISO 26262 and/or ISO 21434 standards
- Prior experience conducting customer engagements
