Zoox is building a ground-up, fully autonomous vehicle fleet designed for urban mobility-as-a-service, combining robotics, machine learning, and design. Within this mission, the Road Network team develops the foundational software, processes, and tools required to manage high-definition road networks.
As a Software Engineer - Road Network Tools, you will join the ZRN Tooling team to build applications used daily by Cartographers to create, analyze, and validate maps that underpin the autonomy stack. This hybrid role involves developing full-stack features, such as the flagship 3D Map Editor, automated planning tools, triage systems, and validation pipelines, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to design new APIs.
This position is ideal for software professionals with strong programming backgrounds who want to contribute to safety-critical autonomy systems through spatial algorithms, automation, and reliable tooling.
Responsibilities
- Design, test, and develop full-stack features for road network applications including the Map Editor, triage tools, and validation pipelines
- Construct content pipelines and automation to help Cartographers generate ZRN data efficiently
- Develop spatial algorithms and tools to refine and validate maps
- Write software requirements, test plans, design documentation, and other technical materials
- Participate in all software development stages from prototyping and requirements capture to implementation and validation
Requirements
- At least 5 years of industry experience
- Proficiency in Python or C++
- Experience in graphics programming utilizing OpenGL or WebGL
- Background working with REST web services, Fast API, operational support, and Postgres
- Familiarity with cloud-based service providers, service monitoring, and AWS
- Experience developing spatial algorithms, graph theory, or routing
Qualifications
- Experience with web application development, Javascript, and React
- Experience working with Rust
- Experience in mapping systems and GIS
