Vercel is seeking a Software Engineer to join their Platform team on a full-time, remote basis. Vercel provides infrastructure that allows developers and agents to build and launch software rapidly with security and developer focus, supporting millions of users and trusted by major organizations.

In this position, you will create and manage high-scale internal observability systems, logs, metrics, and traces that provide the business and engineering groups with visibility into the company's infrastructure. You will collaborate closely with Backend and Platform colleagues to scale monitoring tools, manage cost attribution and chargeback mechanisms, and handle compliance and auditing instrumentation. The role requires designing practical visibility solutions swiftly to enhance system building, deployment, and operation.

This position reports to Eric Larson, who serves as the Engineering Manager for Platform. While listed as remote, individuals residing within a designated commuting distance to company offices in San Francisco, New York, London, or Berlin are expected to work from the office on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays.

This opportunity is ideal for engineers experienced in backend and infrastructure work who want to impact core platform reliability, engineering speed, and cost efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build internal observability systems including metrics, logs, and traces for company infrastructure
  • Create cost attribution and chargeback tooling to map spend accurately to business drivers
  • Partner with Backend and Platform teams to add instrumentation for compliance, auditing, and record-keeping
  • Evaluate, integrate, and operate observability infrastructure across current vendors and the CNCF ecosystem
  • Develop practical visibility improvements quickly to optimize building, deploying, and operating systems
  • Scale observability infrastructure to match the throughput and cardinality of production traffic

Requirements

  • Proficiency in TypeScript alongside backend or infrastructure experience
  • Hands-on production experience with Go, Rust, or Zig
  • Experience working with distributed computing systems at scale
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure including object storage
  • Knowledge of observability tooling and concepts such as Datadog, Grafana, New Relic, Splunk, or CNCF-compatible backends

Qualifications

  • Contributions to or close work with CNCF observability projects
  • Experience building, scaling, and improving internal developer platforms
