Job Description
Affirm is seeking a Software Engineer II for its Identity Decisioning backend team on a remote basis. The employer creates honest financial products designed to give people a clear, predictable way to pay over time without hidden fees. In this role, you will build and support backend systems that validate consumer identities for all Affirm products while meeting regulatory requirements such as KYC. You will collaborate closely with compliance, fraud, product, auth, and other engineering teams.
This position is well-suited for a software engineer who enjoys breaking down large initiatives into phased deliverables, contributing to system availability and on-call rotations, and engaging in team development. Operating in a remote-first environment with global engineering collaboration, you will manage software projects across multiple components, write clean and tested code, and participate in code reviews.
Total compensation includes a base salary determined by location, equity rewards, and monthly stipends for health, wellness, and technology. Responsibilities
- Deconstruct large projects into individual tasks and deliver them across multiple phases with guidance from leadership
- Partner with product management, design, and analytics during ideation and technical planning
- Monitor system availability and artifacts, handle escalations, and participate in on-call duties
- Engage in team growth activities, including participating in the interview process
- Navigate codebases, debug code written by others, and conduct code reviews
Requirements
- Minimum of 1.5 years of experience working as a software engineer
- Experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems
- Proficiency in Python or Kotlin
- Familiarity with distributed systems building blocks and technologies including AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes
