Canonical, the publisher of the Ubuntu operating system, seeks a Software Engineer for Ceph & Distributed Storage to join its cloud engineering group. Operating in a distributed setting, this role focuses on creating modelling software to support systems like OpenStack, Kubernetes, and Ceph, with a heavy emphasis on distributed storage. The position is suited for professionals who understand both the open-source ecosystem and the operational demands of large enterprise organizations.
Daily work involves writing and maintaining Python and Golang software for the lifecycle management and operations of Ceph storage, debugging issues, and contributing to technical best-practice documentation. Team members coordinate globally across regions and gather in person for internal events up to four times per year.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain software for the delivery, operations, and life-cycle management of Ceph storage
- Write maintainable and robust Python and Golang code
- Collaborate daily with a globally distributed engineering team
- Debug technical issues and produce quality fixes
- Contribute to technical documentation establishing best practices for authoring operators
- Discuss and collaborate on architectural solutions
Requirements
- Experience writing modern and maintainable Python
- Experience working with Ceph storage
- Willingness to travel internationally up to four times a year
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field
- An exceptional academic track record from high school and university
- Experience with Linux, Kubernetes, Public cloud, OpenStack, LXC/LXD, Python, Go, or Debian packaging
- Experience operating Ceph clusters in production
- Experience with open-source distributed storage systems such as Gluster, Minio, or Mayastor
