Zoox seeks a Senior or Staff Cost Engineer to join its Vehicle Program team. In this position, the professional will take complete responsibility for the vehicle bill of materials cost and related investments. The role involves working closely with engineering groups focusing on areas like drivetrain, thermal, chassis, electrical, body and closures, trim and lighting, geometric integration, vehicle attributes, and homologation. This position is well suited for an analytical professional who can guide design teams to build components with financial targets and production volumes in mind.
Zoox develops autonomous vehicle technology and mobility products. In this capacity, the cost engineer acts as a vital bridge toward introducing a dependable product to the market successfully. Responsibilities center on managing estimating frameworks, creating detailed should-cost models, maintaining cost databases, and driving value engineering strategies. The role requires partnering directly with engineering staff to discover savings opportunities and deliver data-backed insights for major decisions.
Responsibilities
- Manage and drive cost estimating and modeling workflows inside Vehicle Development
- Build and update the Vehicle Development cost database to support estimations across all development stages
- Produce thorough cost estimates for automotive parts and assemblies
- Build detailed should-cost models to supply data-based insights for key choices
- Act as the subject matter expert for value engineering and should-cost modeling to find savings strategies
- Partner with design groups to improve component cost efficiency
Requirements
- Ten or more years of experience working in Cost Engineering, Supply Chain, Finance, or Business Operations
- Demonstrated quantitative and analytical abilities
- Prior work history at an automotive OEM alongside familiarity with vehicle components and systems
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Expertise in Google Sheets and cost analysis software
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in Engineering
- Master of Business Administration or Master of Science degree in Finance
