Affirm is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for its international identity group, operating in a remote capacity from Poland. The company provides clear and predictable payment services to consumers without hidden fees. In this position, you will own and guide quarterly objectives for the identity team, focusing on markets outside North America. Your primary responsibilities will include managing customer onboarding, user lifecycles, and compliance frameworks across varied regulatory landscapes. This is a hands-on coding position where you will spend a significant portion of your time utilizing Python and Kotlin to build and maintain distributed services.

This role is well-suited for a technical professional who enjoys tackling ambiguous challenges and collaborating with product management, design, and analytics partners. You will champion engineering standards, mentor junior colleagues, and contribute to system reliability and operational uptime. The engineering unit currently consists of six professionals distributed across Poland and Spain. Affirm operates with a remote-first culture, though a mandatory in-person onboarding experience is scheduled for new team members.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and deliver quarterly goals for the team while navigating complex open-ended problems
  • Partner with product management, design, and analytics teams through ideation and technical decision-making
  • Proactively detect and resolve technology, process, and business roadblocks
  • Oversee the availability and operation of team artifacts by establishing metrics and managing on-call duties
  • Raise code review and design standards through internal technical writing and presentations
  • Provide mentorship, feedback, and guidance to support team member growth

Requirements

  • Minimum of four years of background in creating, building, and launching distributed backend systems at scale
  • Demonstrated history of developing distributed architectures utilizing tools such as AWS, MySQL, Kubernetes, Python, or Kotlin
  • Experience planning and delivering significant software components using clean and extensible designs
  • Ability to safely implement substantial modifications within a large existing codebase
