The Subscriptions Mission at Spotify builds the tools and infrastructure driving acquisition, retention, and subscription growth on a global scale. Specifically, the Messaging Platform reaches over a billion listeners via push notifications, email, and in-app communications. Within this environment, the Paloma squad concentrates on message optimization, determining the ideal timing, channel, and message for every user.
This position suits an experienced machine learning professional eager to transition from short-term optimization to systems modeling long-term user journeys. The person in this role will combine reinforcement learning with domain signals to enhance the entire messaging funnel. Responsibilities include owning the complete machine learning lifecycle, designing A/B experiments within a multi-objective framework, and integrating predictive models with upstream systems. Candidates will collaborate closely with product managers, data scientists, and engineers to define success metrics and help advance AI-assisted development practices.

Responsibilities
- Design, build, and deploy production machine learning models for push, email, and in-app messaging channels
- Plan and execute A/B experiments balancing reachability, engagement, retention, and conversion metrics
- Contribute to reinforcement learning systems prioritizing long-term user outcomes over immediate interactions
- Partner with product managers, data scientists, and engineers to establish and measure success criteria
- Manage the complete machine learning lifecycle from data ingestion and modeling to iteration, deployment, and monitoring
- Integrate machine learning models with upstream domain value signals and opportunity generation frameworks
- Contribute to AI-assisted development initiatives to streamline team experimentation and delivery
Requirements
- Extensive experience building and deploying scalable machine learning models in production
- Ability to translate complex business problems into machine learning solutions and negotiate trade-offs with cross-functional peers
- Background working on intricate optimization problems such as multi-objective decision-making or ranking systems
- Hands-on technical proficiency with PyTorch and distributed computing frameworks like Ray
- Deep understanding of experimentation design in environments featuring interacting metrics
- Competency in analyzing test results utilizing metric decomposition or causal inference methods
