Zoox specializes in developing autonomous mobility solutions completely from scratch, creating dedicated passenger vehicles rather than modifying standard automobiles.
This position is ideal for an experienced communications professional who excels at handling high-stakes, technically complex narratives within heavily regulated sectors. The appointee will coordinate closely with internal legal, product, safety, and policy departments to design proactive outreach campaigns, manage media inquiries, and anticipate potential reputational challenges.
Key responsibilities involve monitoring developments within the autonomous vehicle regulatory space, shaping targeted public affairs initiatives, and translating intricate technical concepts into clear messages for external stakeholders. Candidates will also handle rapid-response media requests, formulate risk-mitigation strategies, and provide expert advisory support across various internal teams.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate across departments including policy, safety, legal, and product to elevate reputation and regulatory initiatives
- Direct external communications initiatives and events tied to policy objectives
- Monitor the autonomous vehicle regulatory environment and translate updates into forward-looking strategies
- Build media relationships and manage inbound inquiries regarding safety, reputation, and related issues
- Share the organizational safety framework with key external stakeholders
- Identify potential communications risks and formulate risk-mitigation plans
- Advise internal teams on sensitive and rapidly evolving matters
- Collaborate with public affairs to support community and policy market initiatives
- Execute reactive messaging with speed, accuracy, and sound judgment

Requirements
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in communications or policy communications
- Extensive background handling safety, regulatory, or reputation-sensitive issues
- Demonstrated history of managing high-stakes technical communications within a heavily regulated sector such as autonomous vehicles, aviation, automotive, energy, or healthcare
- Practical background in executing proactive policy communication campaigns that shape narratives or regulatory results
- Hands-on experience with issues management and fast-paced reactive messaging
- Superior verbal and written communication abilities to clarify complex technical concepts
