Collaborating across research, product design, engineering, and marketing, the organization builds features to foster long-term audience relationships. In this position, the engineer will help construct and maintain systems that drive user retention, conversion, and upsells, working alongside other research and development groups, marketing, and growth units.

Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate Java services via the merchandising platform to support conversion and upsell paths
- Partner with squad members and internal stakeholders to create scalable backend architectures, APIs, and data models on Google Cloud Platform
- Act as a technical leader and mentor within a cross-functional agile team
- Coordinate with product managers, engineering managers, and other squads to resolve complex challenges and scale automation platform capabilities
Requirements
- Five or more years of professional experience as a backend engineer working with Java
- Solid computer science fundamentals with past experience constructing complex, high-volume backend services at scale
- Background in designing, implementing, and scaling cloud-native software components on providers like GCP or AWS
- Experience collaborating directly with stakeholders to gather requirements and develop APIs and systems
- Ability to independently drive complex delivery initiatives on cross-functional teams
- Experience deploying and operating distributed services in production environments
Qualifications
- Familiarity with gRPC, GCP, BigQuery, and Bigtable
- Experience modeling, building, and operating integrations with external content management solutions
- Background working alongside machine learning teams for data pipelines and recommendations
