Ro is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Backend - Care Platform Operations to join its team in New York. This hybrid position involves creating and supporting scalable backend infrastructure that powers patient-provider communication, scheduling, and automated workflows.

Engineers in this group will guide technical roadmaps and collaborate across product, design, clinical, and data departments. The position requires strong expertise in backend development, distributed architecture, and a focus on reliability and performance optimization.
Responsibilities
- Design and construct resilient distributed services utilizing Python and FastAPI
- Monitor, assess, and continuously improve system performance and operational reliability
- Promote engineering standards through rigorous testing, monitoring, and observability practices
- Contribute to architectural planning and establish technical roadmaps
- Participate in technical design document reviews and collaborative code evaluations
- Partner with product, data, and design teams to deliver optimized user experiences
- Take part in production on-call rotations to maintain system uptime
Requirements
- Minimum of 7 years of professional software engineering experience
- Expertise in architecting scalable web applications and distributed systems
- Strong proficiency in Python, relational databases, and frameworks such as FastAPI or Django
- Hands-on background in metrics instrumentation and data-driven performance tuning
- Experience scaling complex backend systems through rapid growth phases at late-stage startups
- Solid comprehension of distributed systems principles, data consistency, and service boundaries
