Spotify is seeking Research Scientists across various levels of seniority to join the Artist-First AI Music Lab in New York. This remote position operates within the Eastern Standard time zone with core working hours between CET 3pm-6pm and EST 9am-12pm, and is open to candidates located within the North Americas region in an approved work location.
The role involves developing generative audio technologies using flow matching or diffusion models, conducting large-scale experiments, and collaborating within a cross-functional group of engineers, product managers, designers, scientists, user researchers, and analysts. Researchers will build applications that scale to a monthly active audience of over 700 million users while engaging with the academic and technical communities through conference participation and publications.

Responsibilities
- Perform generative audio research utilizing diffusion or flow matching models focusing on vocal synthesis, post-training, or editing.
- Execute large-scale experiments leveraging company infrastructure and reaching over 700 million monthly active users.
- Develop practical applications that harness generative technologies to advance listening experiences.
- Partner with cross-functional colleagues including scientists, engineers, product managers, designers, user researchers, and analysts.
- Contribute to the broader research community by delivering talks, attending top conferences, and publishing findings.
Requirements
- Hold a Ph.D. in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Demonstrate strong coding proficiencies in PyTorch, Python, and NumPy.
- Possess experience in generative modeling, machine learning, music information retrieval, audio processing, speech processing, signal processing, probabilistic modeling, or computer vision.
- Have specialized expertise in at least one focus area such as vocal synthesis, post-training alignment techniques, or audio-to-audio generation and text-guided music editing.
- Show a record of publications at leading conferences like NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, ICMS, ISMIR, INTERSPEECH, AAAI, IJCAI, CVPR, ECCV, or ICCV.
