Job Description
Pinterest operates a digital platform where users discover creative concepts and plan projects. The company is currently hiring a Principal Machine Learning Engineer, Ads Delivery to join its Ads Delivery team.
In this position, the professional will shape the evolution of the Pinterest marketplace by linking user aspirations with partner offerings. Responsibilities include designing systems to enhance the advertising delivery funnel, conducting experiments to refine utility functions, developing auction mechanisms, optimizing ad allocation, and analyzing marketplace dynamics. The successful candidate will build backend infrastructure and statistical models, define long-term marketplace experiments, balance competing business goals, and collaborate across departments to advance marketplace operations.
Candidates must be capable of working from one of the company's designated offices in San Francisco, Palo Alto, or Seattle, reporting in-person one to two times per month.
Responsibilities
- Build and improve backend systems and statistical models supporting the marketplace to maximize value for all participants
- Define and implement experiments to evaluate long-term marketplace effects
- Develop strategies that balance short-term and long-term business objectives
- Drive cross-functional collaboration with internal peers and partners to advance marketplace operations and design knowledge
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional experience as a technical leader and hands-on engineer leading multiple projects
- Strong software engineering and mathematical capabilities with expertise in statistical methods
- Ability to work in-person from the San Francisco, Palo Alto, or Seattle offices 1-2 times per month
Qualifications
- Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Machine Learning, or a related discipline
- Hands-on experience working with large-scale online e-commerce systems
- Background in computational advertising
- Experience utilizing AI coding assistants such as Cursor, Copilot, or Codex
- Familiarity with large language model-powered productivity tools for documentation search, data exploration, SQL, and workflow acceleration
