In this high-impact role, the engineer will steer long-term architecture, modernize indexing pipelines, and unite real-time and incremental retrieval systems to boost scale and cost efficiency. Responsibilities
- Formulate and execute the long-term architectural vision for indexing and retrieval systems supporting core, ads, and shopping
- Modernize retrieval platforms by advancing unified real-time and incremental candidate generation pipelines
- Partner with engineering, product, and machine learning leaders to balance relevance, system performance, and infrastructure costs
- Guide system designs, technical reviews, and platform changes covering document ingestion, indexing, and quality evaluation
- Develop shared platform tools including standardized metrics, debugging workflows, and tuning surfaces
- Mentor senior engineers and technical staff to foster robust engineering judgment and operational standards
- Integrate AI tools to speed up prototyping, system design iteration, and technical investigations while verifying correctness
Requirements
- Extensive experience building and evolving large-scale indexing, search, recommendation, or ad retrieval systems
- Background with real-time and incremental architectures, distributed infrastructure, and relevance optimization
- Demonstrated technical leadership across multiple teams with a track record of driving complex platform decisions
- Experience leading large-scale architectural modernization, system migrations, or shared platform rollouts
- Strong systems thinking capabilities connecting platform design choices to product quality and business outcomes
