Twilio is hiring a Principal Engineer (L5) to join the Twilio Segment Data platform and pipelines team. In this role, the engineer will build and scale systems capable of handling hundreds of thousands of data points per second. Responsibilities include leading the development of high-scale data processing systems, guiding architectural decisions, and ensuring the reliability, performance, and cost-efficiency of complex distributed systems.

The position is fully remote, though candidates must reside in specific regions of India, namely Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Telangana, or Delhi. Occasional in-person travel may be required for team off-sites, gatherings, or client meetings. Responsibilities

  • Own and deliver routing experiences for the Data platform and pipelines team for Twilio Segment
  • Architect and operate distributed systems in cloud environments that remain consistently available
  • Direct technical choices while balancing performance, reliability, and cost factors
  • Convert complex technical strategies into clear plans for product managers, architects, and other stakeholders

Requirements

  • Hands-on background with high-scale messaging, streaming systems, and processing engines handling several thousand events per second
  • Strong service design abilities to model modular, extensible, and composable interfaces and internals
  • Expert programming experience utilizing Go or comparable object-oriented programming languages
  • Demonstrated history of identifying, prototyping, and launching GenAI or LLM solutions for engineering and data processing tasks
  • Technical depth spanning distributed systems, cloud-native architecture, and high-scale data ingestion
  • Strong communication, operational excellence, and problem-solving skills

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • Proficiency in container technologies, distributed caching, and datastores such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Experience working with modern observability tools and CI/CD pipelines including Datadog, Grafana, and Prometheus
  • Familiarity with artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies
  • Experience managing and operating AWS infrastructure
  • Background working in geographically distributed teams
