Affirm is seeking a Model Risk Management Lead, Machine Learning to join its remote team on a full-time basis. Affirm provides transparent payment options for consumers with no hidden fees or surprises. Within the Enterprise Risk & Internal Audit department, the Model Risk Management team works to establish and maintain an effective framework for identifying, quantifying, monitoring, and mitigating model risk across the organization.
This position involves performing independent challenges of machine learning algorithms utilized in fraud detection, credit underwriting, and credit risk management. The ideal professional will collaborate across departments to remediate validation findings and ensure timely handling of regulatory and audit inquiries.
The role is suited for a detail-oriented analyst with a background in data science, model development, or validation who excels at critical thinking and technical problem-solving. Affirm operates as a remote-first organization, allowing employees to work from nearly anywhere in the country, with occasional in-person onboarding required for new hires.
Responsibilities
- Conduct independent challenges of machine learning algorithms used for fraud detection, credit risk, and credit underwriting through ongoing monitoring and thorough validation
- Spot model weaknesses and identify areas for enhancement
- Work alongside model owners to address validation findings
- Team up cross-functionally to support and maintain the corporate model risk management framework
- Coordinate with Compliance, Internal Controls, and Internal Audit to resolve audit and regulatory matters promptly
Requirements
- Possess four to six years of professional experience in technical areas such as data science, model validation, or model development
- Demonstrate broad and deep knowledge in machine learning modeling, fraud detection, fraud risk management, credit risk management, and credit underwriting
- Show proven ability to utilize scripting languages like Python alongside large-scale datasets such as SQL
- Bring extensive experience working with cloud-based databases, coding environments, and machine learning platforms including scikit-learn and pyspark
Qualifications
- Hold a Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, or PhD degree in a quantitative discipline such as Computer Science, Data Science, or Mathematics
