This full-time internship places successful candidates inside engineering, product, and data groups to prototype, evaluate, and enhance discovery experiences and features driven by machine learning.
This position suits graduate students pursuing advanced degrees who want to gain practical experience with large-scale machine learning systems. Throughout the program, interns take ownership of a scoped project running from problem definition to final implementation, aided by mentors and engineering teams. Responsibilities include conducting applied research, gathering and analyzing data, writing reliable code, and applying modeling techniques to search, ads, and discovery problems.

Responsibilities
- Manage a designated machine learning project from initial scoping through experimentation, execution, and presentation of findings with team and manager support
- Contribute to applied machine learning and artificial intelligence research that shapes platform product features
- Gather, examine, and synthesize data to build data-driven machine learning models
- Produce clean, maintainable, and efficient code with corresponding documentation and testing
- Apply machine learning techniques like natural language processing or graph-based methods to ranking and modeling tasks across search, ads, and discovery
- Deconstruct technical challenges, suggest approaches, and deliver solutions while leveraging AI tools for accelerated analysis and iteration
Requirements
- Be currently enrolled in a Master's or PhD program in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Statistics, Information Sciences, or a related field
- Demonstrate experience applying machine learning or artificial intelligence concepts through research, projects, coursework, or past internships
- Communicate effectively as a team player capable of solving open-ended problems
- Work full-time during standard business hours from Monday through Friday while commuting to the Zurich office for in-person collaboration two to three weekdays per week
Qualifications
- Experience with ranking, computer vision, natural language processing, content recommendations, embeddings, or information retrieval
- Familiarity with big data technologies such as Hadoop or Spark and scalable real-time stream processing systems
- Proficiency in at least one systems language including Java, C++, or Python, or a machine learning framework such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or MLFlow
- Demonstrated background in research and resolving analytical problems
