Pinterest seeks a Sr. Machine Learning Engineer, Core Engineering to join its team in San Francisco. In this full-time on-site role, the engineer will build advanced recommendation systems and personalization features utilized by over 500 million active users globally. The person in this position will collaborate across multiple product areas, including Homefeed, Ads, Growth, Shopping, and Search, to experiment with and refine machine learning models. Responsibilities
- Develop advanced technology utilizing recent developments in deep learning and machine learning for personalization
- Partner with cross-functional groups to run experiments and optimize machine learning models across product surfaces like Homefeed, Ads, Growth, Shopping, and Search
- Apply data-driven techniques and utilize unique data properties to enhance candidate retrieval
- Operate within a high-impact setting characterized by swift experimentation and product deployments
- Monitor and evaluate industry advancements regarding recommendation systems
Requirements
- Minimum of 4 years of professional experience applying machine learning methods such as user modeling, personalization, recommender systems, search, ranking, natural language processing, reinforcement learning, and graph representation learning
- Hands-on, end-to-end background in developing data processing pipelines, large-scale machine learning systems, and big data technologies including Hadoop and Spark
Qualifications
- Degree in computer science, machine learning, statistics, or an equivalent field
- Master of Science or Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Statistics, Information Sciences, or a related discipline
- Published papers at leading machine learning conferences
- Practical background utilizing AI coding assistants like Cursor, Copilot, or Codex for development, debugging, testing, and refactoring
- Familiarity with large language model-driven productivity tools for documentation searches, experiment analysis, SQL exploration, and workflow acceleration
- Proficiency in scalable real-time systems capable of processing streaming data
- Strong enthusiasm for applied machine learning and the Pinterest platform
