Affirm is seeking a Lead, Technical Account Management (SMB Merchants) to oversee a team of technical account managers supporting small and medium-sized business merchants. Operating in a remote-first capacity, this full-time management position sits within the engineering team and collaborates closely with client success, product management, operations, and merchant care departments.
This role is well-suited for an experienced technical leader who enjoys mentoring professionals and advocating for merchants. The manager will guide team members in helping merchants integrate products, avoid integration pitfalls, and adopt additional company offerings. Responsibilities include evaluating staff technical skills, managing escalations, forecasting hiring needs, and establishing measurable performance goals.
Candidates must possess a solid foundation in web development technologies and REST APIs, paired with extensive background in customer-facing technical functions and people management. Responsibilities
- Manage, coach, and develop a team of technical account managers focused on small and medium-sized business merchants
- Partner with client success teams to accelerate time to market and drive post-launch product adoption
- Define and monitor team goals, objectives, and key results while creating proactive action plans
- Assess staffing demands and lead the recruitment process for new team members
- Evaluate technical capabilities during hiring, handle escalated customer issues, and provide guidance on integration solutions
- Serve as an internal advocate for merchant priorities by collaborating across departments
Requirements
- Minimum of five years of experience in a business-to-business, customer-facing technical capacity
- At least three years of experience managing people
- Strong technical background working with web development technologies and REST APIs
- Residency in one of the eligible Canadian provinces: Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, or Saskatchewan
Qualifications
- A degree in computer science or professional software engineering experience
- Prior experience delivering solutions for e-commerce or in-store retail merchants
