The selected manager will direct initiatives aimed at reducing media load times and enhancing playback fluidity while ensuring high visual quality at scale.
The role suits a technical leader with substantial software engineering and management background who can collaborate across multidisciplinary groups like data science, infrastructure, and product. The individual will coach engineers, maintain operational standards, and assist with adopting new media formats.
The position requires working in a hybrid arrangement, necessitating occasional on-site presence twice a month near designated office locations. Qualified individuals will receive a base salary along with equity eligibility.
Responsibilities
- Manage a cross-platform engineering unit focused on video playback and image rendering across web and mobile environments.
- Establish the technical roadmap and execute strategies regarding reliability, performance, and quality for media features.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, product, data science, performance, and transcoding departments to enhance media delivery.
- Spearhead projects designed to cut media load times, increase playback smoothness, and sustain visual quality on a large scale.
- Direct architectural and platform decisions while balancing maintenance longevity, technical investments, and product demands.
- Develop and expand the team through recruitment, mentorship, and professional coaching of engineers.
- Enhance engineering standards via robust testing, operational practices, release quality, and metric measurement.
- Facilitate the integration of emerging media technologies and formats to benefit a worldwide user base.
Requirements
- Over nine years of software engineering background, featuring deep proficiency in iOS or Android alongside familiarity with web technologies.
- At least five years of engineering management experience directing platform or client engineering units.
- Extensive comprehension of client performance, covering profiling, optimization, and instrumentation.
- Solid technical foundation in client-side performance, image delivery, video streaming, and media rendering.
- Practical background utilizing media frameworks such as ExoPlayer and AVFoundation.
- Proven history of generating meaningful enhancements to engineering efficiency, system performance, or product experiences.
- Capability to direct multi-platform initiatives and work cooperatively with cross-functional peers.
- Proficiency in technical judgment, people-focused leadership, and direct communication.
- Must be located within commutable distance to specified offices to fulfill the requirement of working on-site twice per month.
