To support this mission, the company is seeking an Engineering Manager II for Media Rendering to direct a cross-platform group handling video playback and image delivery across web and mobile applications.

This role focuses on establishing technical direction, driving execution for system reliability and speed, and reducing media load times. The engineering manager will collaborate closely with infrastructure, product, data science, performance, and transcoding teams while guiding staff through architectural and platform choices. Additionally, the position involves building and nurturing a strong engineering unit through active coaching and hiring.

Candidates must be able to work from a commutable distance to the San Francisco or Palo Alto offices, as in-person collaboration is required twice per month. Responsibilities

  • Lead a cross-platform engineering unit responsible for video playback and image rendering across web and mobile applications

  • Spearhead initiatives that minimize media load times, enhance playback smoothness, and maintain visual quality at scale

  • Scale and mentor a high-performing team through recruitment, coaching, and professional development
  • Improve engineering standards through testing, release quality, operational practices, and performance metrics
  • Facilitate the adoption of modern media technologies and formats for a global user base

Requirements

  • Minimum of 9 years of software engineering background with extensive expertise in Android or iOS and familiarity with web technologies
  • At least 5 years of engineering management experience directing platform or client engineering teams
  • Comprehensive understanding of client-side performance optimization, instrumentation, and profiling
  • Strong technical knowledge in video streaming, image delivery, media rendering, and client performance
  • Practical background utilizing media frameworks such as ExoPlayer and AVFoundation
  • Demonstrated history of boosting engineering efficiency, system performance, or product experience
  • Capability to lead cross-platform initiatives and partner effectively with cross-functional groups
  • Ability to work from a commutable distance to the San Francisco or Palo Alto offices to attend in-person collaboration twice a month
