The enterprise seeks a Director, Compounding Operations to serve as the network-wide leader for all pharmacy compounding functions. Based on-site in Romeoville, Illinois, this hands-on role oversees sterile and non-sterile compounding across existing and upcoming facilities, including locations in Illinois and Florida. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Compounding & Manufacturing, the incoming professional establishes enterprise operating standards, manages regulatory inspection readiness, and collaborates closely with cross-functional groups such as Quality, Compliance, Legal, Product, and Supply Chain.
This opportunity fits an experienced pharmacy operations leader who possesses deep technical knowledge of compounding environments, strong regulatory judgment, and the capability to scale operational controls across multiple sites. The position requires on-site attendance in Romeoville, Illinois, along with the willingness to travel up to 30 percent of the time.
Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end compounding operations throughout all network facilities to guarantee consistent execution, operational efficiency, and regulatory adherence
- Act as the primary subject matter expert for compounding standards, maintaining continuous inspection readiness and directing internal and regulatory audits
- Develop and refine compounding workflows, batch records, standard operating procedures, documentation practices, and training programs
- Enforce rigorous batch record review and verification standards across technicians, pharmacists, and Quality Assurance teams
- Direct deviation investigations and corrective and preventive action procedures alongside the Quality department
- Partner with site leadership and Pharmacists-in-Charge to enhance daily performance and operational accountability
- Track and improve key operational metrics including throughput, right-first-time performance, and deviations
- Generate data-driven performance and compliance reports concerning compounding strategy
- Ensure equipment and facility qualification, upkeep, and ongoing compliance
- Collaborate across departments to aid operational goals and the rollout of new products
- Assist with recruiting, training, and professional growth for compounding pharmacy staff
- Cultivate an organizational culture centered on safety, compliance, and excellence
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of working experience in pharmacy compounding operations
- Demonstrated practical expertise in both sterile and non-sterile compounding environments, including workflows, equipment, and operational controls
- Advanced working knowledge of relevant regulatory standards and compounding guidelines
- At least 2 years of leadership background directing pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, or compounding teams
- Proven experience partnering with Quality and Compliance divisions in regulated healthcare settings
Qualifications
- Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited institution
- Active and unrestricted pharmacist license in good standing, with licensure across multiple states preferred
