Job Description

Affirm is a financial technology company dedicated to delivering honest financial products, providing consumers with clear and predictable ways to pay over time without hidden fees or surprises. The Legal, Compliance, and Public Affairs team helps the business scale and innovate while protecting its ecosystem. Affirm is currently hiring a Compliance Manager to direct compliance advisory efforts specifically for the Affirm Card program.

This position suits an experienced compliance professional who thrives in ambiguous environments and enjoys tackling unprecedented regulatory challenges. In this capacity, you will independently make risk-based decisions across user onboarding, marketing, disputes, and remediation. You will collaborate directly with Product, Engineering, and Operations teams throughout the full product development lifecycle to ensure that card features are built sustainably.

The ideal candidate will guide product development by applying deep regulatory knowledge and overseeing disclosures, user experiences, and promotional materials. Additionally, the role involves identifying coverage gaps, supporting regulatory examinations, conducting root-cause analyses, and serving as the primary compliance authority on evolving card features.

Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end compliance advisory for the Affirm Card program across marketing, checkout, onboarding, wallets, disputes, and servicing.
  • Review and approve card marketing, user interfaces, and disclosures to satisfy regulatory standards and consumer protection requirements.
  • Lead root-cause analysis and sustainable remediation for card compliance issues including declines and adverse action notices.
  • Collaborate with Compliance Testing, Legal, and Risk departments to support regulatory examinations and bank partner audits.
  • Maintain the card program control inventory and compliance risk assessment to proactively address coverage gaps.
  • Design and update compliance reference materials and training specific to card regulations.
  • Act as the primary compliance expert for new card features and surface risk early in the product lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Over 8 years of compliance advisory experience in financial services combined with a Bachelor degree, or over 6 years with a Master degree, or over 3 years with a PhD or equivalent.
  • Extensive working knowledge of EFTA, Reg E, TILA, Reg Z, and the CARD Act as applied to card products.
  • Familiarity with TISA, Reg DD, and UDAAP regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently in fast-paced, ambiguous settings and make sound risk-based judgments with incomplete data.
  • Experience partnering closely with Product, Engineering, and Operations stakeholders on lending, card, or payments programs.
  • Background in steering issues from root-cause analysis to durable remediation by fixing underlying controls.

Qualifications

  • Professional compliance certifications.
  • Hands-on experience with major card network rules such as Visa and Mastercard.

Core Skills

Benefits

  • 100% subsidized medical coverage, dental, and vision insurance for employees and their dependents.
  • Monthly spending stipends designated for tech setups and health and wellness options.
  • Flexible time off paired with generous holiday calendars.
  • Employee stock purchase plan allowing discounted purchases of Affirm stock.
