Job Description

Affirm is a financial technology company that provides clear and predictable payment solutions for consumers, merchants, and partners without hidden fees. The Legal, Compliance, and Public Affairs group supports this mission by combining regulatory knowledge to guide innovation and maintain trust. Affirm is currently hiring a Compliance Manager to oversee compliance advisory specifically for the Affirm Card program.

In this position, you will operate independently to deliver risk-based guidance across marketing, onboarding, digital wallets, servicing, and dispute processes. You will collaborate daily with Product, Engineering, and Operations teams throughout the entire development lifecycle. The ideal candidate thrives in ambiguous environments where precedents do not yet exist, taking ownership of novel regulatory questions without needing an established playbook.

This is a remote-first opportunity based in the United States, allowing professionals to work from various locations within the country. Compensation includes a structured base pay range depending on location, equity opportunities, monthly technology and wellness stipends, and comprehensive health insurance benefits that cover one hundred percent of premiums for employees and their dependents. Visa sponsorship is unavailable for this opening.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee end-to-end compliance advisory for the Affirm Card program across marketing, checkout, onboarding, wallets, servicing, and disputes.
  • Evaluate marketing materials, disclosures, and user experiences to verify regulatory adherence and consumer protection standards.
  • Investigate root causes and implement lasting remediation for Card compliance issues like declines, adverse action notices, and disputes.
  • Collaborate with Compliance Testing, Legal, and Risk departments to prepare for bank audits and regulatory exams.
  • Update and manage the Card program control inventory and compliance risk assessments to close coverage gaps.
  • Create and deliver compliance reference materials and training targeted at Card regulatory duties.
  • Identify regulatory risks early in the product development lifecycle for new and evolving features.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience working in a financial services compliance advisory capacity.
  • Working knowledge of EFTA (Reg E) and TILA (Reg Z)/CARD Act regulations as applied to card products.
  • Demonstrated ability to function independently in fast-paced, ambiguous environments with incomplete information.
  • Experience managing issues from root-cause analysis through to sustainable control remediation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree with 8 or more years of relevant experience, Master degree with 6 or more years, PhD with 3 or more years, or equivalent.
  • Meaningful background working with card and payments compliance.
  • Familiarity with TISA (Reg DD) and UDAAP regulations.
  • Practical familiarity with card network rules including Visa and Mastercard.
  • Professional compliance certifications.

Core Skills

Benefits

  • Health coverage featuring 100 percent covered premiums for employees and dependents, including medical, dental, and vision.
  • Monthly spending stipends to support tech setups, health, and wellness choices.
  • Flexible time off and holiday schedules.
  • Employee stock purchase plan allowing discounted Affirm stock purchases.
