The Security Platform Engineering unit builds vital capabilities for privacy, compliance, and security functions such as secrets management, identity and access management, onchain protection, policy administration, and vulnerability tracking.
This role suits an experienced engineer who excels at designing scalable backend systems, guiding technical roadmaps, and mentoring colleagues. The position involves collaborating with leadership, product managers, designers, and fellow engineers to translate technical visions into concrete quarterly plans using modern cloud tech, Java, and Golang.
Coinbase follows a remote-first operational model that requires team members to gather periodically for in-person working sessions known as surges. Responsibilities
- Architect and develop platform infrastructure for the security platform engineering organization
- Collaborate with management and stakeholders to shape strategic technical roadmaps
- Build new services utilizing Golang and Java to address business and product needs
- Design scalable systems leveraging modern cloud technology and industry standards
- Prioritize and manage individual projects, deliverables, and deadlines
- Mentor and train other team members regarding coding standards and design techniques
- Formulate a long-term vision for scaling and maintaining backend systems and teams
- Work alongside leadership, product managers, designers, and engineers to establish quarterly roadmaps
- Produce high-quality, thoroughly tested code
- Diagnose complex technical issues and improve system deployability, operation, and diagnostics
- Review feature designs across company projects to maintain architectural clarity, safety, and scale
Requirements
- Minimum of 8 years of software engineering experience
- Demonstrated experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production services in a service-oriented architecture
- Strong technical proficiency in system design and coding
- Clear verbal and written communication skills with a transparent cultural orientation
- Ability to utilize generative AI responsibly with human oversight
