Coinbase is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Platform group within its Finance Engineering Platform team. This remote role centers on owning frontend technical direction for systems that convert transfer, payment, and trading data into exact financial records. Coinbase focuses on increasing economic freedom through a remote-first work environment, though employees gather periodically for quarterly in-person working sessions known as surges.
This position is ideal for an experienced software developer who can translate complex operational problems into scalable user experiences. In this capacity, the engineer will manage the internal control plane utilized by Accounting and Finance teams to review data, handle reconciliation issues, and track financial health. The selected professional will work alongside internal users and cross-functional teams to shape technical strategy and mentor other engineers.
Responsibilities
- Manage the frontend technical strategy and architecture for financial reconciliation and operational solutions, involving TypeScript and React applications.
- Oversee the design of auditable workflows incorporating approval states, permissions, error handling, review history, and validation.
- Establish end-to-end contracts with API and backend groups to turn new data capabilities into reliable features.
- Set standards for frontend quality concerning performance, testing, observability, accessibility, feature management, and secure rollouts.
- Handle complex, high-impact projects by driving alignment across product, design, engineering, and Finance teams.
- Collaborate with Accounting and Finance users to address operational pain points while mentoring other engineers.
Requirements
- At least 8 years of software engineering experience.
- Significant background in building and shipping production web applications using TypeScript and React.
- Fullstack capability spanning across both backend services and frontend development.
- Track record of leading cross-functional projects from problem definition through to iteration.
- Expertise in frontend architecture including state management, performance optimization, testing, accessibility, API integration, and observability.
- Experience utilizing generative AI responsibly while maintaining human oversight.
Qualifications
- Domain experience in payments, financial systems, or reconciliation.
- Experience building enterprise software, data-rich operational products, or workflow systems.
