Coinbase is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for its Core Reliability group within the Platform and Infra Reliability organization. This remote-first company focuses on increasing economic freedom and operates in a high-intensity environment that brings employees together for quarterly in-person working sessions known as surges. The position targets professionals who want to scale technical infrastructure significantly while tackling complex technical challenges.
In this capacity, the engineer will focus on improving the safety, security, and overall reliability of production systems. The team is responsible for managing service configurations, safeguarding system secrets, minimizing customer-facing incidents, and supporting thousands of services alongside hundreds of daily releases.
Ideal candidates possess extensive software engineering experience working within service-oriented architectures. The role involves designing resilient distributed systems, collaborating with critical engineering squads, enhancing deployment and canary release mechanisms, and fostering strong reliability practices throughout the organization. Participation in on-call rotations outside of standard business hours is required.
Responsibilities
- Design and deliver reliability features and projects to increase system resiliency alongside engineering teams
- Collaborate with critical T0 and T1 services to analyze architectures, improve scalability, and decrease operational workload
- Construct and maintain platforms that securely handle service configurations and secrets at a large scale
- Enhance canary release systems and broaden deployment capabilities to support numerous services and daily deployments
- Promote reliability best practices and cultivate reliability culture across the engineering organization
- Take part in on-call rotations to address production issues outside of standard working hours
Requirements
- Minimum of five years of software engineering background building, designing, and maintaining production services in service-oriented architectures
- Working knowledge of Ruby, Go, Terraform, and cloud platforms including AWS, GCP, or Azure
- Demonstrated capability to design and manage reliable, low-latency, and high-throughput distributed systems at scale
- Practical experience using monitoring and observability tools like Kibana and Datadog to debug production problems and tune performance
- Ability to communicate architecture decisions clearly in writing and verbally to cross-functional stakeholders
- Responsible utilization of generative AI while maintaining human oversight for efficient workflows
