Coinbase is hiring a full-time Senior Software Engineer for the Tokens & Wrapped Assets team within its Platform organization. This remote-first company focuses on increasing economic freedom and operates in an intense, high-bar environment where staff gather quarterly for in-person working sessions known as surges. The position involves managing the infrastructure responsible for issuing, wrapping, and transforming digital assets across networks including Ethereum, Base, and Solana.
This role suits an experienced engineer who enjoys end-to-end project ownership, combining smart contracts, application programming interfaces, and production management. The engineer will build and maintain systems that handle minting, burning, bridging, and asset reconciliation while collaborating closely with trading, custody, compliance, and other internal cryptocurrency teams. Candidates must be comfortable handling tier-zero system reliability and guiding less experienced team members to elevate technical standards.
Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end delivery of token and wrapped asset projects spanning smart contract deployment, interface design, service level objectives, and multi-chain production releases.
- Develop and maintain Go-based services and smart contracts responsible for minting, burning, bridging, and reconciling assets across both on-chain and off-chain environments.
- Improve asset transformation and migration pipelines to facilitate faster and safer token launches, upgrades, and migrations at scale.
- Collaborate with trading, custody, USDC, compliance, and other crypto teams to ship revenue-generating and customer-facing functionality.
- Manage on-call duties for team services by creating observability tooling, operational runbooks, and reliability enhancements for tier-zero systems.
- Mentor junior engineers, participate in design reviews, and define technical patterns that improve team output quality.
Requirements
- Minimum of five years of software engineering experience.
- Proficiency in at least one backend programming language, with Go preferred.
- Demonstrated background in designing, building, and operating production backend services at scale.
- Practical blockchain background involving smart contract development with Solidity or EVM, onchain integrations, or building transactional onchain services.
- Experience with distributed systems concepts such as application programming interfaces, event-driven architectures, data reconciliation, and production on-call duties.
- Ability to execute complex initiatives autonomously within fast-paced multi-chain or multi-system settings.
- Responsible use of generative AI with proper human oversight to improve workflow efficiency, quality, and cost.
