Coinbase is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join the CX Intelligence team within the Enterprise Applications and Architecture organization. In this role, you will lead the evolution of the company's conversational ecosystem by creating a unified orchestration layer that coordinates interactions between internal multi-agent systems, vendor artificial intelligence, and human participants. The CX Intelligence group builds customer-facing and internal support experiences connecting the Help Center, chatbots, and agent workflows. This position suits an engineer who enjoys high ownership, building reliable artificial intelligence products, and managing complex hand-off logic across distributed environments.
The role requires designing production-grade Python services, establishing engineering best practices, conducting design reviews, and mentoring team members on architectural integrity and modern artificial intelligence patterns. Coinbase operates as a remote-first organization where team members occasionally gather in person for quarterly working sessions called surges. Responsibilities
- Design and deploy an orchestration layer to manage state transitions, context sharing, and intent routing across vendor and internal large language model frameworks
- Develop production-grade Python services connecting advanced machine learning research with reliable customer-facing products
- Lead end-to-end project execution for machine learning initiatives from design through delivery
- Set standards for system design, coding practices, and artificial intelligence development workflows
- Mentor engineering personnel on modern artificial intelligence patterns and architectural integrity
- Perform design reviews to confirm features adhere to performance, security, and scalability guidelines
Requirements
- Five or more years of professional background in software engineering and machine learning
- Track record of shipping production-grade machine learning services at scale
- Hands-on expertise utilizing modern artificial intelligence architectures including deep learning and large language models
- Experience with the generative artificial intelligence ecosystem and frameworks such as Vertex AI, AWS Bedrock, LangGraph, or LangSmith
- Deep proficiency in Python with the ability to write tested, clean, and maintainable production code
- Specialized knowledge in at least one domain such as information retrieval, natural language processing, computer vision, or advanced statistical modeling
