Syms Strategic Group, LLC is seeking a remote Senior Configuration Engineer to support Veterans Affairs applications and lead cloud migration initiatives. This full-time W-2 position suits an experienced professional capable of operating autonomously to build and maintain software configuration management tools, establish build procedures, and drive repeatable deployment processes. The role involves close collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders, as well as mentoring junior team members.
The successful candidate will handle configuration identification, release engineering tasks, and the integration of commercial-off-the-shelf software products. Responsibilities also encompass designing productivity automation tools, creating company-wide configuration standards, and training developers on quality practices and tooling. Candidates must be U.S. citizens and able to obtain a Public Trust (MBI) security clearance. Responsibilities
- Support applications for the Department of Veterans Affairs and assist with cloud migration
- Develop and manage software configuration management systems for internal and third-party commercial products
- Perform release engineering tasks to document opening parameters and guarantee logistical sustainability
- Design and automate productivity tools through scripting, programming, or databases
- Establish build procedures and configuration standards for organization-wide adoption
- Instruct software developers on configuration management tools and quality standards
- Lead and mentor junior engineers and analysts
- Ensure consistent, repeatable build and deployment lifecycles across multiple projects
Requirements
- Demonstrated history of delivering complex software builds and releases across environments
- Extensive background in release engineering and software configuration management
- Proficiency with source control systems and branching workflows like Git, GitLab, GitHub, Azure DevOps Repos, and Subversion
- Experience utilizing CI/CD pipelines such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, and Azure DevOps Pipelines
- Familiarity with artifact repositories including Nexus and Artifactory
- Scripting abilities in Python, Bash, and PowerShell
- Knowledge of infrastructure as code tools like Terraform and Ansible
- Familiarity with work management software such as JIRA, Trello, and Azure Boards
- U.S. citizenship required
- Ability to obtain and hold a Public Trust (MBI) security clearance
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field with over ten years of relevant experience, or eight or more years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree
- Familiarity with Electronic Data Interchange X.12, Medical Claims, Health Level 7, and Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources
- Professional certifications such as ITIL Foundation or CMII
